UK Net Migration Drops to 171,000, Lowest Level in Over a Decade
According to recent data released by the Home Office, the net migration rate into the UK reduced to 171,000 last year, down almost by half compared to 2024 rates, and the lowest seen since 2012 (except during the pandemic). This fall is mostly due to decreased non-EU migration for work purposes and tougher immigration policies, such as preventing international students and carers from being able to bring their families and requiring a minimum salary of £41,700. Despite the reduction in asylum applications of 12%, which total about 93,500, the government has received backlash from the opposition about the large number of British citizens leaving the country.
